Dr. A. K. Banerji is one of India’s most distinguished neurosurgeons and a pioneer in the development of modern neurosurgical practice in the country. After completing his MBBS and MS in General Surgery from King George’s Medical College, Lucknow, and his MS/MCh in Neurosurgery from Christian Medical College, Vellore, he joined the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in 1965. At AIIMS, he played a pivotal role in establishing and expanding the Department of Neurosurgery, later serving as Professor and Chief of the Neurosciences Centre until 1995.
